Lava Discovered On Mars

Today we add a new shader effect and script to the core of GameGuru, and an extra asset type to the Scifi Mission To Mars Pack in the form of liquid ground tiles which you can place inside craters to form simple puddles and shallow pools.  The shader will deform the tile using a soft wave pattern so stacking many of them end to end will create a ripple effect, along with parallax texture scrolling will give the surface extra depth. The script created specifically for this tile can be applied to make the surface hostile to the player, sapping health until you can escape contact with the liquid, ideal for lava, acid and other areas of a dangerous game level. For owners of the Scifi Pack, you will now find additional textures in a new Liquid folder for Lava, Mud, Oil and Swamp, with the lava preconfigured to hurt the player if he or she tries to walk on molten lava!  The lava works really well with the desert and rocks of the Mars sample level.

You can also keep the liquid harmless, allowing the player to squelch across a slightly undulating surface. You will find a new entity in the Cartoon category of GameGuru called Liquid Goo, and if you want to heat it up a little, just edit the properties and add the hurt.lua script from the root folder of the scriptbank to keep the player at bay.

If you want to create your own liquid floor tiles, you can do this simply by using the Import Model feature from the FILE menu on the Liquid Goo item and choose your own texture and save as your own liquid tile entity.

For those who have yet to own the Scifi Pack, the good news is that the Bundle is currently on Steam sale and you can get it now by following this link: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/90433/
